The core terms of delonix, defined precisely and verified against the binary (delonix api-resources, --help). Start at the home page if you have not installed yet.

Modelo de execuçãoExecution model

daemonless
No resident process. Every delonix command is an ephemeral process that talks to the kernel directly (namespaces, cgroups v2, pivot_root), keeps its state in files, and exits. There is no dockerd and no per-container monitor.
rootless
Publicar portas abaixo de 1024 (-p 80:80) exige --low-ports no instalador, porque o kernel reserva essas portas aos processos privilegiados (o mesmo muro do Podman/Docker rootless).Runs with your UID, no root privileges — the default mode. It builds on user namespaces and delegated cgroup v2. Publishing ports below 1024 (-p 80:80) requires --low-ports in the installer, because the kernel reserves those ports for privileged processes (the same wall rootless Podman/Docker hit).
holder-netns
The SHARED network namespace that serves rootless networking. Instead of one slirp4netns per container (Podman), delonix keeps ONE shared holder-netns + slirp4netns pair, with nft DNAT for port publishing — which is what lets you swap ports and volumes hot, with no container restart.
slirp4netns
Userspace NAT that gives a netns connectivity without privileges. It is the process that binds the host side of a -p under --net host.
cgroup v2
The UNIFIED control-group hierarchy of the Linux kernel (CPU/memory/PIDs/IO). delonix requires cgroup v2 and, when rootless, relies on systemd delegation (user@<uid>.service). A limit like -m 2G is memory.max.
OCI
O delonix puxa e constrói imagens OCI e oferece uma CLI runc-compatível em delonix oci-runtime (create/start/state/kill/delete sobre um bundle, ADR-0080).Open Container Initiative — the standard image and container-runtime formats. delonix pulls and builds OCI images and offers a runc-compatible CLI in delonix oci-runtime (create/start/state/kill/delete over a bundle, ADR-0080).

RedeNetworking

netns
Network namespace — o isolamento de rede do kernel (interfaces, tabelas de routing e firewall próprios). Cada container corre no seu; delonix net netns gere a infra do ingress rootless (up/status/attach/publish/firewall).Network namespace — the kernel's network isolation (its own interfaces, routing tables and firewall). Each container runs in one; delonix net netns manages the rootless ingress infra (up/status/attach/publish/firewall).
ingress / egress
delonix net ingress é o firewall INBOUND (regras L4 + publishes DNAT); delonix net egress é o firewall OUTBOUND (regras L4 + política de egress por rede).delonix net ingress is the INBOUND firewall (L4 rules + DNAT publishes); delonix net egress is the OUTBOUND firewall (L4 rules + per-network egress policy).
Gateway
kind: Gateway — a exposição ao exterior. delonix net tunnel expõe uma porta local à internet pública através de um Gateway.kind: Gateway — exposure to the outside. delonix net tunnel exposes a local port to the public internet through a Gateway.
HTTPRoute
kind: HTTPRoute — o reverse-proxy L7/HTTP embebido (apply/rm via delonix net httproute). kind: Ingress é um alias de compatibilidade que baixa para HTTPRoute.kind: HTTPRoute — the embedded L7/HTTP reverse-proxy (apply/rm via delonix net httproute). kind: Ingress is a compatibility alias that folds into HTTPRoute.
NetworkPolicy
Um kind: Dependency é açúcar que baixa para NetworkPolicy.kind: NetworkPolicy (alias accepted on load: FirewallPolicy) — L4 network policy per container/network, with direction: egress for outbound. A kind: Dependency is sugar that folds into NetworkPolicy.

Manifesto e recursosManifest and resources

Kind
The TYPE of a declarative resource in the manifest (e.g. Container, Volume, Network, VirtualMachine). delonix api-resources lists them all (plural, shortname, apiVersion); delonix explain <Kind> gives the field reference. Not to be confused with a «kind» cluster (see below).
manifesto
The delonix-manifest.yaml file that declares the desired resources (one or more Kinds). It is the source of truth for state — the engine converges the host toward it.
Stack
kind: Stack — o agregado de um manifesto inteiro. delonix stack apply aplica todos os Kinds por ordem de dependências (Network → Volume → Image → Vm → Container); os recursos ficam marcados com o label delonix.io/stack, por onde stack destroy os reconhece.kind: Stack — the aggregate of a whole manifest. delonix stack apply applies every Kind in dependency order (Network → Volume → Image → Vm → Container); the resources are tagged with the delonix.io/stack label, by which stack destroy recognizes them.
converge / apply
Applying a manifest means converging the host toward the declared state (create what's missing, reconfigure hot what drifted), idempotently and fail-fast, with no state file — the last applied spec lives on the resource itself. delonix apply is the canonical spelling (the verb belongs to the manifest, not one group); stack apply is the same. delonix plan shows what an apply would change; delonix drift shows what the MACHINE changed since the last apply.
Delonixfile
The project's build file (analogous to a Dockerfile, with Delonix extensions), written by delonix init/stack init and read by delonix build.
Pod / Workload
kind: Pod são N containers reais a partilhar um netns (delonix pod: create/logs/exec/cp/attach/port-forward). kind: Workload é a camada de computação unificada sobre containers E VMs, açúcar que baixa para Container/Pod/VirtualMachine (delonix workload ls/stop/rm, ADR-0002).kind: Pod is N real containers sharing a netns (delonix pod: create/logs/exec/cp/attach/port-forward). kind: Workload is the unified compute layer over containers AND VMs, sugar that folds into Container/Pod/VirtualMachine (delonix workload ls/stop/rm, ADR-0002).

VMsVMs

microVM
Arranca em Cloud Hypervisor (ou libvirt).A first-class lightweight virtual machine, declared by kind: VirtualMachine and managed by delonix vm (create/ls/start/stop/console). It boots on Cloud Hypervisor (or libvirt).
Cloud Hypervisor
Ver o guia cloud-init, cloud-img e CH.The lightweight Rust VMM (Virtual Machine Monitor) delonix uses by default for microVMs — native path, no libvirt. See the cloud-init, cloud-img & CH guide.

KubernetesKubernetes

CRI
Ver o guia CRI.Container Runtime Interface — the API the kubelet uses to talk to a runtime. delonix serves its own (delonix serve cri), which lets the kubelet run without containerd. See the CRI guide.
kind (cluster)
A local Kubernetes cluster in «kind» mode: the kindest/node nodes start INSIDE the engine itself and are bootstrapped by kubeadm, no Docker. delonix cluster create — no flags, 1 control-plane ready to use.
kubeadm
The official Kubernetes bootstrap tool. delonix uses it to bring up both kind-mode clusters and VM-provisioned clusters (delonix cluster kubeadm, kind: KubernetesCluster).
